NIAB is committed to supporting UK farmers and agricultural businesses in 2020 through the covid-19 crisis. We are operating differently due to the impact of the virus, ensuring the welfare of NIAB employees whilst keeping to government guidelines, and adapting and finding alternative ways of working with our customers where we can.
Our grower field days and summer open days have been cancelled for the foreseeable future, so we are bringing everything online to ensure customers and visitors still have access to NIAB's expert independent advice and research on variety choice, plant breeding, crop science, crop agronomy, plant protection, and soils and cultivations.
The NIAB Virtual Event Hub is open to all, featuring a mix of videos, webinars and podcasts from our NIAB specialists and advisers against the backdrop of our crop plot demonstrations in Cambridgeshire, alongside downloadable guides, topic sheets and information posters.
Information will start coming online from early May onwards and will be regularly updated. Topics will include:
- combinable crop variety choice - winter wheat, winter oilseed rape, pulses, barley and oats
- grassweed management
- soil management and rotational choices
- alternative break crops
- inputs versus yield
- new fungicides
- soil amendments
- nitrogen response research
- yellow rust – biology and control
- forage varieties and agronomy
- disease diagnostics
