Niab is a Disability Confident employer having achieved accreditation under the UK Government’s scheme in summer 2022.
The Disability Confident programme encourages employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.
Niab employees with disabilities are encouraged to be confident about demonstrating their skills and abilities. We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer, and ask staff to make us aware of how we can help with accessibility requirements or issues they may have in the workplace. And not just our current staff. We aim to interview anyone disclosing a disability whose application meets the minimum requirements for a job vacancy at Niab.
“Becoming a Disability Confident employer is about inspiring Niab employees to speak openly about their disabilities and help raise awareness by sharing their experiences with work colleagues. We trust that this accreditation sends a strong message to our staff, customers and stakeholders about the importance we place on disability.”
Professor Mario Caccamo, Chief Executive, Niab
“Niab's disability awareness includes staff who are carers for family members. My 20 year old daughter is severely disabled, and requires one-to-one care, which hugely impacts our family’s home and work life. In the 13 years I’ve worked at Niab, the organisation, my line managers and colleagues have always been tremendously supportive. Niab allows me the flexibility to attend Hannah’s many college, medical and social care appointments, alongside accommodating adjusted hours, where necessary, to allow for caring at home. This awareness and understanding makes a huge difference. It also means I’ve been able to stay in full-time work in a job and sector I love.”
