EVENT: JIC - The future of food and farming - 20-21 October 2011.

21 Oct 2011

The Centre for Contemporary Agriculture (CCA) is a unique partnership between UEA, Easton College, John Innes Institute, Food Research Institute and NIAB-TAG. It aims to develop agricultural education, training and research to meet future local, national and international needs. As this century progresses our world faces massive challenges to produce sufficient food sustainably and to provide adequate nutrition for all. The Global Food Initiative, within the CCA, seeks to bring together experts and interested individuals from different spheres of activity associated with food to:

  • exchange information and views
  • learn from each other
  • publicise their concerns, and
  • influence debate and policy

The CCA is organising an occasional series of public lectures based loosely on the UK Government Foresight Food and Futures report. Speakers will be eminent in their fields and will chair industry and expert seminars on the day following the public lecture, to discuss topics at greater length and to stimulate debate.

The first public lecture will be on Thursday 20th October at the John Innes Lecture Theatre at 7.30p.m.

The speaker will be Professor Sir John Marsh, CBE, who is a renowned Agricultural Economist. He will give an oversight of the Foresight Report and its implications. The following morning, Friday 21st October between 10a.m and noon at Easton College Sports Hall, Prof. Marsh will chair a Seminar to critically examine some of the assumptions made by the Foresight report authors.

Numbers for the seminar will be limited to 40 to enable lively discussion.

If you would like to attend, please book your place with Linda Fairclough using the form below or by e-mail at L.Fairclough [at] uea.ac.uk or tel. 01603 592712. Lunch will be available, if pre-booked, to enable networking.
