The NIAB Board

NIAB is a company limited by guarantee that is a registered charity charged with conducting operations to meet its charitable objectives. A Board of Directors are the Trustees of the Charity and administer the Company.

The NIAB Chief Executive is appointed by the directors to manage the day to day operations of the Company. To facilitate effective operations, the Chief Executive has delegated authority, within the terms of delegation approved by the Board, for all operational matters. The Chief Executive also exercises strategic and scientific direction as approved by the Board.

National Institute of Agricultural Botany Trust

The National Institute of Agricultural Botany Trust is a registered charity which owns all the land and buildings used by NIAB. It has a specific object to support NIAB in the pursuit of its objects including the provision of land, facilities and financial support. The Trust is administered by a Board of Trustees.

East Malling Trust

The East Malling Trust is a leading private funder of horticultural research in the UK, and is a strong supporter of NIAB at its East Malling site in Kent.

Our Patron

NIAB has enjoyed royal support from its foundation and is very proud that The late Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was our patron over the entirety of her reign. The Royal patronage recognises the work NIAB does for national and international agriculture and commands respect worldwide.
