Ian has worked at NIAB since 2007, having previously studied agriculture at Newcastle University.
After five years working as a trials officer at NIAB's Headley Hall regional centre in North Yorkshire, he moved to NIAB Cambridge to become a trials coordinator. Now based back in North Yorkshire, but in the same role, Ian’s responsibilities include contract-management of all commercial cereal and pulse variety trials and coordination of NIAB Membership trials.
Ian also runs NIAB’s Agronomy Cup competition and uses this as an opportunity to encourage more agriculture students to seek careers in the plant science industry.
Being BASIS and FACTS-qualified, with both field trials experience and experience of working on a large arable farm, Ian is aware of the importance of NIAB’s independent advice and enjoys helping to transfer the findings of our field trials to farmers and industry professionals at NIAB events across the country.
