• Getting to grips with Soil Carbon – Liz Bowles, Chief Executive of the Farm Carbon Toolkit and colleagues

Speaker:

Liz is the Chief Executive of the Farm Carbon Toolkit (FCT). The Farm Carbon Toolkit was set up by farmers over a decade ago to further the understanding of greenhouse gas emissions in Agriculture. Now we have one of the most used farm carbon calculators in the UK and provide advice and guidance across the agri food sector to support a positive response to the climate and nature emergencies we face. The Farm Carbon Calculator is now used on four continents.

Liz has stepped down in 2022 as a Director of the Oxford Farming Conference having successfully completed her three-year stint, despite two of the three years being under Covid restrictions. Prior to joining FCT Liz was Associate Director Farming and Land Use at the Soil Association and was responsible for leading and managing the Soil Association’s work with farmers throughout the UK in conjunction with the Producer Support Team which supports Soil Association licensees, manages the Duchy Future Farming Programme Field Labs, implements development plans for organic agriculture in the UK and supports organic supply chain development. The Innovative Farmers Programme managed by the Soil Association puts farmers in the driving seat of on farm research and is pioneering farmer led trials on farm. Liz has a wealth of experience of agriculture and food both in the UK and internationally. She has worked in the sector for over 30 years and brings a practical approach combined with scientific and sector knowledge to her roles.
