Dr Joseph Martlew

Joe has over 10 years applied agricultural research experience, with expertise in soil science, machinery and agronomy. With a mixed background in commercial and academic roles, Joe has a strong interest in how farm management approaches are brought together into resilient farming systems.

Dr Mark Fletcher

Mark joined NIAB in July 2024 as Head of Agronomy Services.

He leads NIAB's team of 20 agronomists and consultants who deliver technical and consultancy services across the country. This includes overseeing the translation of NIAB’s wide-ranging research programme, including member-funded agronomy trials, into on-farm advice to support productive, resilient, regenerative farming for members, customers and stakeholders.

Jack Poulden

I work with Nathan Morris and David Clarke as part of the NIAB Soils team at Morley in Norfolk. Predominately my work is focused on long term research projects looking at; improving soil health, cultivations, crop rotations, cover cropping, fungicide performance and soil amendments. Our work is mostly based out of Morley and across East Anglia including our Saxmundham research site and the STAR project, Suffolk.

Gary Rackham

Gary provides agronomy advice and technical services to farmers across the eastern region, working closely with NIAB’s Head of Membership Technical Services Andrew Watson and agronomist Stephen Keach on-farm in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Emma Smith

With a BA (Hons) in business management and a keen interest in horticulture, Emma is part of the glasshouse and ornamental specialist team delivering trials and R&D services for mainly commercial customers of arable, fruit and ornamental and protected crops in the glasshouses.

Emma provides the team with business development, contract management, customer liaison, coordination and technical services for activities including variety trials and variety characterisation, product evaluation trials, nutrition and growing system studies.
