Ideally you will bring experience and specialist knowledge to build on our vision for NIAB, providing an impartial and confidential sounding board to the NIAB CEO and Executive.
Whether it be your network of contacts and trusted partners, your ability to ask challenging questions and suggest innovative solutions or your diverse blend of skills that matches our strategic direction – you can help shape NIAB’s future.
We are searching for specific skills and experience: a proven academic reputation with strong connections in the UK research environment; a track record in the successful commercialisation of early-stage science; a strong network in UK horticulture. And we are seeking to maintain the balance of diversity on our Board and would actively encourage applications from female candidates and minority ethnic backgrounds.
As the UK’s fastest growing crop science organisation NIAB is foremost in the translation of research, knowledge and technology into on farm solutions for growers and beyond. For every £1 spent at NIAB, a recent impact study concluded that at least £17.60 is returned to the wider UK economy through improved production efficiency, economic growth, import substitution, export earnings and inward investment.
Based in Cambridge and East Malling, Kent, with field stations throughout England, NIAB employs around 400 people and provides research findings, scientific services and technical advice to a diverse customer base that includes Government departments, research councils, levy bodies, farmers, charitable trusts and the agri-food industry.
Given NIAB’s global reputation, strong executive team, diverse interests across multiple sectors and the changing landscape of UK agriculture and horticulture, this is a very exciting time to join our Board and work with an Executive committed to profitable and sustainable growth.
