The conversion of wild-type 2-row barley to 6-row barley is due to three independent mutations within the HOX1 gene underlying the VRS1 locus on chromosome 2H. Genetic variation at an additional locus on chromosome 4H called INT-C modulates anther development (and hence fertility) of lateral spikelets. KASPar marker Hv11_20606_GC is predictive for allelic state at INT-C: although it is genetically linked INT-C, it does not represent a 'perfect' marker. SNP C = no fertility of lateral spikelets (associated with 2-row phenotype). SNP G = fertility of lateral spikelets (associated with 6-row phenotype). Note: this markler represents BOPA1 marker 11_20606. Note: this marker was developed from HarvEST U32 Unigene 3687. |
